Last year I had the pleasure to photograph a jewish orthodox wedding with CJ Studios from New York City at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus, Ohio. This wedding was over the top with detail, traditions, and 500 people in attendance. I have covered jewish weddings before but nothing like this. I was responsible for covering portraiture for the groom before the wedding. We got the permit for using the State House the day of the wedding so we could use it for portraits. The permit was well worth it and now I encourage most of my future brides to get it if the wedding is downtown. You have to check out the photos below to see how great this wedding was. I am photographing two destination jewish orthodox weddings in Detroit this May and June that I am very excited for!
Melissa and Alex are a fun and great couple to work with. The ceremony was held at the St. Joseph Cathedral in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The catholic church was amazing. I attend The Catholic Church of the Resurrection in New Albany but I would love to attend a mass here every so often just because of how great it looks. After the ceremony we headed downstairs for a for portraits. The brick archways are perfect to work with. We also went to the State House for a majority of the wedding party and bride and groom photos. I’m very glad Melissa rented the State House for their portraits. The rotunda was perfect with the leading lines that draws your eye in to them. I have even submitted a few of these photos to be published in Shutter Magazine. After we had our fill of portraits we traveled to the reception at the Renaissance Hotel downtown Columbus. Congratulations to Melissa and Alex!
Whitney and Darryl’s wedding at the Renaissance Hotel was nothing short of amazing with all the detail!
The ceremony with all the nice uplighting and the reception was breathtaking. This wedding was very fun to photograph. We started at Whitney’s hotel room as she was getting ready. I hung the dress up over the bed for the symmetry. As I was taking the photos I saw Whitney and her bridesmaids looking out on the pool deck at another bride doing their first look. The girls were smiling and have a great time. After I finished up with the girls I checked on the guys. I found Darryl being helped by two groomsmen at once for his cufflinks. We then proceeded to have Whitney and Darryl hold hands around a corner without seeing each other. The ceremony went great and I was informed that at the end of the ceremony this was going to be Whitney and Darryl’s first kiss ever! There was a lot of pressure on me but I knew I would get it just as I do it at every wedding. After the ceremony we went to take photos throughout the Renaissance Hotel. Everything was decorated for Christmas so it was pretty easy for me. I love setting up the lighting in all the locations around the Renaissance. I am so glad everything turned out great and we didn't even have to leave the hotel. Congratulations Whitney and Darryl!
Here is a sneak peek slide show I made of Whitney and Darryl's wedding photos taken at The Columbus Renaissance Hotel. Enjoy!

This is one of my favorite weddings of the year. Everything from the location to the family moments was perfect. I could not be happier with these images. Even the weather being overcast made the images look so much better. I even recreated an image that I took a long time ago on the pool deck that also turned out perfect.
I started the day at Charles Penzone Grand Salon in Dublin. I got some great shots of Lyda getting her makeup on and hair done. Wen then went to the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Columbus. I did a little backlighting to the dress and also got an emotional shot of Lyda and her sister Mylene hugging. We then did a first look with her groom Jesse. We traveled all around for the wedding party photos from the Renaissance pool deck to the State House lawn. The ceremony was perfect and I even got to end the night using the pool refection. Congratulations to Lyda and Jesse!

Erica and Adam's Wedding was quite an experience and I was very happy to be a part of it. We started at Salon Lofts in Gahanna for Erica's hair and headed on over to Charles Penzone also in Gahanna. We did a few portraits before had so we had the "First Look" outside The Renaissance Hotel ballroom. They were so incredibly happy to see each other. We went to the rooftop of The Renaissance Hotel for a few portraits and started the ceremony. The weather was perfect and the ceremony was wonderful. After the ceremony we went to Nationwide Blvd and Genoa Park beside COSI to take a few portraits. They all turned out amazing. We then traveled to The Loft at Smith Brothers for the reception. The Loft is one of the most unique reception venues in Columbus for the fact you can look down from the upstairs down to the middle of the dance floor. Taking photos at this wedding was such a pleasure I wish I could do it all over again. Below are a few of my favorite photos from the wedding.
